US Military

The US Military has seven major branches. Those are - the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and their Reserve (part-time duty), the Air National Guard and the Army National Guard. All these branches of the US Military work in close cooperation to ensure safety and security of the American citizens. They are responsible for keeping the external and internal enemies at bay through military means.

The US Army is the branch of the US Military that is responsible for carrying out land-based military operations. It came into existence on June 14, 1775, prior to the formation of the United States, to handle the crisis of the American Revolutionary War.

The US Air Force (USAF) is the aviation branch of the US Military. It is responsible for air-based military actions. It carries out assaults on targets in air, on water and on land using a wide range of fighters, bombers, helicopters and other aircrafts. The mission of the US Air Force is "to defend the United States through the control and exploitation of air and space."

The US Navy is responsible for military operations on water. They can launch attacks from sea and ocean waters on targets on both land and water. They use different types of ships, submarines and aircrafts in their operations. Besides taking part in war, the US Navy also transports weapons and personnel for other branches of the US military.

The US Marines act as the provision naval infantry in the US Military. It is responsible for carrying out amphibious operations from the sea onto land. Its expertise in all essential elements of combat (air, ground and water) makes it a potent military force.

The US Coast Guard is the smallest of the seven uniformed services of the US Military. This force is responsible for search and rescue operations, marine environmental pollution control and maintenance of intercostals and offshore aids to navigation (ATON). Besides military operations, it renders law enforcement duties too.
